As a baby boomer, I join the group of children whose fathers not only avoided discussion of their own war experiences, but wrote only brief V-mails to loved ones. John’s parents left him a treasure trove and he has done a masterful job of incorporating their story into the battle timeline of his father’s service before and after the Battle of the Bulge.

I found it a fascinating portrayal of life in the 40s’ and which made it easy to imagine what my own parents had gone through. Also, the importance of faith in facing trial was encouraging in today’s times.

Having had the privilege of knowing John’s parents in the 1960’s made the story even more precious.
